EdPlus at ASU is currently seeking a highly-motivated, detail-oriented Data Science Specialist to join their high-performing team in the Action Lab. This role is responsible for providing, managing, and analyzing data connected with interventions increasing student success. The data science specialist works closely and collaboratively with various partners and stakeholders within EdPlus to plan, organize, and execute data pipelines and data strategies that will result in the successful implementation of fast-paced initiatives. This role also creates and implements cloud automation actualizing student success initiatives at scale.

Essential Duties
- Develops and implements data pipelines using strong Python coding skills.
- Transforms complex data sets into formats usable for intervention through competence in code development.
- Extracts, transforms, and loads data from appropriate databases for use in intervention strategies.
- Integrates code into CI/CD pipelines within an MLOps infrastructure.
- Implements data pipeline automation in cloud-based environments such AWS and GCP.
- Collaborates with teams planning and delivering interventions.
- Validates variables of interest using data analysis tools.
- Designs audit test controls to measure effectiveness of implementations.
- Designs and implements A/B testing and RCT under the guidance of researchers.
- Creates, manages, and oversees communication mediums for delivering statistical/research outcomes through data visualization mediums.
- Prepares technical reports and presentations for senior leadership to report progress toward objectives and outcomes.
- Coordinates with Action Lab researchers on strategic implementation of interventions at scale.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Information Systems, Business Information, Economics or a related field and three (3) years of related data analysis experience, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
- Experience coding in Python.
- Demonstrated knowledge of R.
- Experience querying databases with SQL.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Alteryx.
- Experience working in AWS and/or GCP cloud environments. (AWS Sagemaker or Vertex AI is a plus.)
- Experience developing machine learning models using tree-based algorithms from scikit-learn or similar machine learning library.
- Evidence of strong working knowledge of version control using Git with GitHub, Bitbucket, or other git hosting tool.
- Experience accessing and creating API’s.
- Experience with natural language processing (NLP).
- Evidence of an advanced degree in data science, computer science, software engineering.
Working Environment
EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
