Minimum qualifications:

    • 5 years of experience designing and managing PostgreSQL databases with a focus on performance, security, scalability, reliability, high availability, and disaster recovery.
    • Experience working with PL/pgSQL and languages such as C/C++ and Java.
    • Experience with scripting and automation.
    • Experience with backend development and distributed systems.

Preferred qualifications:

    • 5 years of experience designing and managing PostgreSQL databases with a focus on performance, security, scalability, reliability, high availability, and disaster recovery.
    • Experience with scripting, automation, PL/pgSQL, and high-level languages such as C/C++ and Java.
    • Experience migrating mission-critical database applications from on-premise to cloud or running a hybrid cloud environment for large enterprises.
    • Experience in technical consulting on database design and architecture supporting large enterprise customers with high SLO and SLA requirements.
    • Deep expertise in PostgreSQL database internals and diagnosing issues around storage, memory, performance, and tuning.

As a Database Engineer at Google, you design, implement and maintain their relational database systems for performance and reliability. You’re responsible for tuning and configuring their databases as well as building tools and scripts to monitor, troubleshoot, and automate their systems. You propose test plans and interface with external groups, developers, and application owners to arrive at optimal solutions. Other areas of responsibility include designing and enhancing disaster recovery and backup systems. As you are writing automation for hundreds of machines, pages are serving up in real-time, which means that the user has a seamless browsing experience.

With your technical expertise, you design, implement and improve processes, procedures, and automation for all database-centric areas. You also test the systems in place and interface with external groups.

Responsibilities

    • Identify customer pain points proactively and help improve customer self-service model through software enhancements, tools, documentation, guidelines, and more.
    • Develop relationships with key enterprise customers and engage with them to address issues and recommend best practices like instance sizing, flag settings, extensions, and the likes. Help customers perform experiments and scale with different settings to tune Google Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) instances for their workloads.
    • Contribute code actively to improve the product and the core database engine, and to make it more secure and robust.
    • Engage with the PostgreSQL community by sharing your database expertise. Also, provide advisory and training to the engineering team.
    • Partner and help drive great cross-functional relationships with internal leadership, stakeholders, and partners to help create highly reliable database offerings by expanding the footprint of SQL products for the Cloud.
