They are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join their IT function at this exciting time to be responsible for developing and delivering their data management and warehousing. This is a new and exciting position that will evangelise and mature their data management business wide. Whilst this role is primarily based in Hammersmith, the role will require some time in Knightsbridge and may require some travel to other Harrods office locations.

About you

You’ll be a seasoned professional with experience of data engineering in dynamic business setting. You’ll have demonstrable experience working with systems and data infrastructures at scale in a hands-on role building scalable data services and systems. You’ll have a BSc/MSc/PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or equivalent.

You’ll have design and development expertise as well as knowledge of programming or scripting languages like R and Python or equivalent in order to apply data management methodologies through a multitude of programming languages and data modelling tools.

You’ll have experience working with large scale data pipelines in distributed environments with technologies such as Hadoop, Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, HBase, MySQL, etc. You will have experience of actively maturing the Data Engineering team in your previous roles through the implementation of Team SLA’s and KPIs to ensure an effective and consistent delivery.

The role also collaborates with business stakeholders and thus must be an effective communicator capable of delivering insights to non-technical audience.  You will work closely and manage expectations from business users/stakeholders to ensure the insights are delivered in an accessible, logical way.

What to expect

As the Data Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for the creation, development, and implementation of data infrastructure and pipelines that deliver data from various internal and external data sources. You will partner with the internal and external stakeholders, be aware of market leading data infrastructure technologies and drive the improvements of their data services and systems.

As the Lead Data Engineer, you will work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs to design, develop & maintain all parts of the data pipeline to support scalable data services.

You’ll be the subject matter expert in your discipline, responsible for applying hands-on experience in custom ETL design, data warehousing, and data modelling to support their analytics roadmap.

Operationally, you will work as part of an Agile delivery team, using methodologies like Scrum and Kanban to address issues and future projects in data management, partnering with your peers across data science, business intelligence, information management and DevOps.
