The Nielsen ROI Analytics team develops and implements various products that measure audience and spend lift for specific types of content and ad campaigns across TV and digital platforms. They are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to manage some of these products, as well as other R & D initiatives across the team. Responsibilities include enhancing and maintaining methodologies to measure the effect of ad exposure across audience segments, to estimate the demographic composition of the audience to specific types of programs, and to align ROI metrics across products. While working on these methodologies, emphasis should be placed on automation, scalability, and object-oriented coding within a unified framework that can be leveraged to build various products relying on the metrics already available within Nielsen.

Responsibilities

    • Lead complex research projects from beginning to end (including planning, methodology innovation, and enhancement, testing and validation, etc.)
    • Run and deliver studies within the existing methodological frameworks in order to meet client requests and deadlines
    • Conduct exploratory analyses to clean data and answer client concerns
    • Work with cross-functional teams to productional, validate, and optimize methodologies
    • Act as Data Science decision-maker and point of contact within these teams
    • Support deployment and maintenance of data pipelines and models in a production environment
    • Develop and implement strategies to automate the production of methodologies
    • Stay abreast of developments in research methodology and changing technologies in the marketplace and proactively identify applications of these latest developments to improve existing methods
    • Provide support for technical guidance and training of other team members
    • Summarize, document, and communicate research findings to audiences of varying levels of technical subject matter expertise

 

Required Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, social sciences, biological/physical sciences, computer science, or some other quantitative research field
    • 3-5 years of research experience in a business setting
    • Outstanding statistical and analytical skills with expertise in machine learning techniques
    • Proficiency in Python
    • Experience with R
    • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., AWS, Spark, Hadoop)
    • Software engineering experience, including version control (git, svn), unit/integration testing, code review and sharing (BitBucket, etc.)
    • Some knowledge of counterfactual causality / natural experiment methodology
    • Some knowledge of data visualization tools/packages
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
