ML Engineer 738 views

Remote within the U.S. — $120k – $170k

Podsights is a small, distributed organization seeking an engineer to join their growing team! Here’s a little about them, a little about what they believe, and what they are looking for.

Podsights is an attribution platform for podcast advertising. They likely work with your favorite publisher and handle over 7 billion events a month.

Their mission is simple, they are looking to grow the podcast industry. Far too many brands try a podcast advertising campaign and churn. Or worse: they don’t even try to enter the market. By providing a platform for brands to optimize results, they encourage investment in podcast advertising, and by proxy to publishers.

The podcasting industry has seen a lot of growth in the past few years, and they believe it has more room to grow. Beyond growth, podcasting presents some interesting problems: its decentralized, RSS-based nature, and the various ways people can listen. Joining Podsights is an excellent opportunity to be hands-on with an evolving medium.

They believe that where you went to school has little bearing on your performance as a software engineer. Where you live isn’t a proxy for talent. Your current employer provides a low signal about your future potential.

Different backgrounds bring different perspectives, and we believe this helps them be better problem solvers. They encourage applications from all sorts of diverse backgrounds.

At Podsights, they look for ambition and curiosity. They love engineers that aren’t solely interested in the craft of developing software. Want to start a company of your own one day? Are you interested in the business side of software? Tell them more.

They want curious engineers. You take things apart and see how they work (the real test is if you can put them together too!).

Their team consists of members of Embedly (acquired by Medium), Horizon Media, Claritas, NPM, and How Stuff Works. You can learn more about them here: Podsights Team

They cover 100% of health/dental/vision benefits, offer 4 weeks of PTO, above-average paid parental leave, and reimbursement toward a comfortable workspace.

About the Role

As one of the first ML Engineers at Podsights, you are inheriting a blank canvas. It’s an awesome opportunity to help build the Podsights ML R&D group from the ground up. You should enjoy taking ownership of and driving research initiatives. The ML Engineer role requires an experimentalist and rapid prototyper who isn’t afraid to dive headfirst into fuzzy, ambiguous problem domains. This position will focus on aspects of user modeling with segment data, personalization, and recommendation. Discovering brand and publisher relationships for higher conversion, or scoring products to recommend future strategy are just some of the problems you may work on.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience (can be less with MS, Ph.D., or research experience)
  • Strong machine learning and deep learning fundamentals
  • Experience with recommendation, personalization, and user modeling
  • Comfortable with Python
  • Experience with common data science toolkits and deep learning frameworks (e.g. NumPy, pandas, SciKit, Pytorch/Tensorflow, Matplotlib, etc.)
  • Experience with Bayesian statistics, probabilistic modeling, and multimodal learning
  • Understanding of the machine learning life cycle
  • Intellectual curiosity; stays current with advances in ML
  • Exposure to the marketing analytics domain is a big plus

If the above interests you, drop them a note. They’re less worried about a resume (LinkedIn is fine), but more importantly, tell them about your ideal next role.
