About the role:

This role is based within Optum Insight as part of Payer Decision Intelligence. Optum is the technology and services division of UnitedHealth Group, the leading international health insurer. The primary function of the Data Science team within Payer Decision Intelligence is to build machine learning solutions and put them into production.

They are looking for an additional Senior Data Scientist to enhance their capacity to develop the analytics in support of their business insights. As a key member of the Data Science Team, you will be part of UnitedHealth Group’s mission of helping people live healthier lives. You will work with other Data Scientists and subject matter experts to conduct and manage outcomes of various analytic studies. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, review and interpret complex data through the development of case studies, enabling the data to tell a story
  • Build and maintain production-ready machine-learning models
  • Identify drivers of patterns/behaviors uncovered in data
  • Contribute to the design and realization of analytical based tools/assets to identify and monitor non-standard claim patterns
  • Engage with subject-matter experts to explore business problems and design solutions
  • Present analysis and interpretation for both operational and business review and planning
  • Support short and long term operational and strategic business activities through the use of data and develop recommended business solutions through research, analysis and implement when appropriate

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Analytics, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, etc with a significant quantitative aspect
  • Data Science experience with Python or R
  • Experience developing machine learning models
  • A history of working on Analytical Projects, for example; exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, fitting, tuning, evaluating and comparing models, etc
  • Ability to communicate effectively to clients and the business in writing and verbally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with relational databases
  • Experience with Spark/PySpark
  • Experience in at least one data visualization tool for displaying and exploring analytic results such as Plotly, R Shiny, Matplotlib, or similar
