WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You will be based in Waltham as a member of our Data Science Innovations (DSI) team. You will work closely with various product teams and group leaders to constantly detect new data science opportunities, scope them, and develop advanced analytic algorithms. Results of your projects will empower internal product teams to create smarter and more efficient tools such as knowledge search engine, chatbots, automated recommendations, and video processing.
Data Science Innovations (DSI) helps product and service teams solve their toughest challenges with expert data science advisory and delivery of cutting-edge ML solutions. We encourage pro-active data science research, review of existing algorithms and development of new ones.
We are part of larger Technology & Digital (T&D) department that exists to support and advance McKinsey’s purpose and mission.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

In this role, you will work with specialists on projects involving cutting edge algorithms, having the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge in real life problems. You will witness your work appreciated by thousands of highly demanding users.
You will collaborate with product teams (developers, designers, and product owners) to understand user needs and build and deploy machine learning algorithms to simplify and enhance the lives of our colleagues. You will experiment with natural conversation algorithms and learning loops to reduce manual human intervention. You would apply deep learning, NLP, and will manage productionalization of your machine learning research. You are not afraid to get your hands dirty with both research and production related coding.
You might be also often asked for advice to help product teams scope their problem, translate their business needs into a feasible data science opportunity.
You will also foster an analytics culture within the team and propagate a deeper understanding of our users by everything you do.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Passion for applying sophisticated analytics to solve complex business problems
  • Advanced skills in Machine learning programming/analytics (preferably Python and Tensorflow and/or PyTorch), with a clear commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Theoretical understanding of, and experience with, statistical methods such as factor analysis and logistic regression, including selection of appropriate techniques to real-world data sets
  • Experience with advanced machine learning methods such as CNN, RNN and/or attention networks; natural language processing methods such as word2vec, sentence encoders/decoders, processing large corpus
  • Proficiency in SQL, including retrieving data from relational databases
  • Understanding of software development principles, such as version control, testing, deployment
  • Comfortable explaining principles and common problems to audiences without a technical background
  • Integrity and professionalism in dealing with confidential information
  • Proactive self-starter with outstanding personal productivity skills
  • Experience with production deployment using docker, knowledge of Kubernetes or similar would be a plus
  • Comfortable operating with tools through the command line
