The Senior Director of Retail Pharmacy Personalization Data and Analytics will lead an advanced multi-level team of colleagues to design, build, and scale cutting-edge data science and data engineering approaches to enable the vision for Personalization of the Retail Pharmacy at CVS Health. They will guide and execute the end-to-end data and analytics strategy for the Retail Pharmacy Personalization effort, including data acquisition, data ETL, machine learning model development, test and learn approach, and model scaling into production.

  • Accountable for on-time delivery of data and analytics solutions supporting prioritized Retail Pharmacy use cases
  • Lead a cross-functional team of 10+ colleagues, comprised of Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Solution Strategists to deliver the data and analytics solutions required to enable the Pharmacy Personalization vision
  • Oversees all Data and Analytics projects within the Pharmacy Personalization Lab, and works with team members to problem-solve issues with data structuring / modeling / testing, provide guidance on selection of methodology / approaches, and provide quality assurance of results
  • Develop the Data and Analytics strategy and roadmap, including selection of data and modeling platforms and test and learn approach, required to support the Pharmacy Personalization vision
  • Identify the skills and experience needed for Data Scientist, Data Engineer, and Solution Strategist roles, and work with Overall Lab lead to make required hiring decisions during mobilization of the Lab and ongoing staffing decisions as the Lab evolves over time
  • Work with Technology Lead to identify and size necessary technology and data infrastructure investments required to enable Pharmacy Personalization vision
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Data and Analytics experts from across the enterprise (e.g. Front Store, PBM) to identify and coordinate resource and knowledge sharing
  • Experience with customer personalization using advanced modeling/ machine learning to drive sales/ profit growth in a B2C customer environment
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering results using advanced analytics in how products and services are communicated and delivered to customers across multiple channels
  • Deep understanding of pharmacy and patient data, and ability to identify new ways to utilize existing data, as well as identify important gaps in current data collection approaches
  • Good understanding of the pharmacy business and the patient journey; ability to translate this understanding into data and analytics-based solutions that enable CVS Health to impact the patient and other stakeholder experience
  • Creative and open mind, with a strong vision for retail pharmacy personalization; demonstrated ability to generate first-of-their-kind solutions and challenge the status quo
  • Experience leading 10+ person teams of data scientists and data engineers to deliver large projects on aggressive timelines
  • Proven experience presenting to, collaborating with, and influencing senior executives across the enterprise
  • Demonstrated ability to design and build data and analytics solutions in close collaboration with the business, to generate immediate value for the enterprise with minimal iterations
  • Fluent in translating high-level business goals into technical specs and communicating low-level technical concerns about implementation back to business leaders
  • Proven ability to successfully balance near-term results (e.g. ability to design and execute on a ‘MVP’ model), with long-term goals
  • History of delivering large-scale projects on-time and on-target


Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years developing analytics solutions with direct business application, ideally in a retail or healthcare setting
  • 5+ years leading data/analytics-focused teams, with demonstrated growth and progressive responsibility over time
  • 2+ years leading teams in a retail or healthcare setting, previous experience with PHI preferred
  • 2+ years building machine learning solutions with direct business application; familiarity with machine learning techniques (e.g., K Nearest Neighbors, Random Forest, GBM, Neural Networks, boosted trees, LDA, collaborative filtering, Bayesian, etc.)
  • 2+ years working on relevant big data and machine learning platforms (e.g. Hadoop, Python, Scala, Spark)
  • Full-time, 100% dedicated to Personalization Lab and co-located with Lab in our RI Corporate Headquarters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working via an agile, sprint-based approach
  • Experience working side-by-side with business owners, and translating business needs into data-based solutions
  • Comfortable balancing quality of output with short timelines required to enable downstream functions (e.g. data science)


  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or scientific field such as Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Master’s degree or PhD strongly preferred
