Job Overview

A Senior Software Engineer loves coding. Beyond technical capabilities we are also looking for a person who can take diverse and changing requirements and turn them into actionable plans. The ideal candidate will have had experience in the high paced energy of startups as well as experience in the structured world of larger companies. Additional responsibilities include mentoring the team, Agile story delivery, and escalating issues as needed. A senior engineer needs to have strong SOA, design patterns, Java micro-services, REST, cloud, and event driven techniques software engineering experience and be hands-on as needed as well as have Big Data and NoSQL development experience. The successful applicant will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Architects in a highly collaborative environment to provide quality software and enterprise solutions, while providing the necessary leadership to deliver releases on time and on budget. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

Contribute to and lead design and deployment planning for enterprise applications, systems interfaces, high volume performance, and scalability with project and offshore teams. Work in a lean Agile collaborative environment – including meetings, iterative development, estimations and design sessions. Collaborate with Dev, Product and Project management to estimate and plan work. Work with engineers, architects and quality engineers to resolve development roadblocks. Work with distributed enterprise teams across various time zones. Report critical issues to leads and managers effectively, timely, and with clarity. Hands-on system design and development as needed. Mentoring more junior team members. Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.

Education/Experience

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years full life cycle development Java and web development experience.
• 4+ years of experience with SOA, Java micro-services, Cassandra, big data, data structure/algorithms, performance tuning, multithreading, Spring, CI/CD, and Kafka/Messaging.
• 2+ years of experience of implementing NoSQL technologies.
• Experience or passion for high performance, scalable engineering and big data.
• Experience with TDD practices.
• Experience with tuning high volume web applications a strong plus.
• Experience with Object Oriented Design patterns.
• Experience with tuning high volume web applications a strong plus.

Communication Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to effectively communicate across teams and roles.

Mathematical Skills

• Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability

• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Physical Demands

• This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.
• May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.
• Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
• May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.
