The Buy CTO Platform organization delivers a scalable and highly available Data and Compute Platform to the Nielsen Buy organization. The Platform supports the storage and manipulation of the world largest Consumer Finished Goods data set: This data and its derived analytics empower retailers and manufacturers with the intelligence they need to drive revenue, increase market share, optimize their pricing strategies, track their Supply Chain Management and much more.

The Platform encompasses a massive Data Lake, a self-service Ingestion mechanism, a Business Catalog, an advanced Mathematical Formulas Repository, a Virtual Warehouse layer for reporting, a Search engine, a data extract mechanism and a Data Science developer’s environment. The Platform is supported by a talented DevOps/CloudOps team using the latest techniques to implement a modern SDLC, to setup virtual cloud networks, to deploy on elastic cloud resources, to secure the data at rest and in transit and to schedule, orchestrate and monitor thousand of jobs.

Our current Platform projects span the whole Platform functionality and are typically built to take advantage of open source projects in a Cloud settings such as Spark, Airflow, Kubernetes, Docker as well as modern Database-as-a-service offerings.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering

    • Write clean, concise, maintainable middleware code
    • Comfortable authoring code on a distributed compute platform
    • Author clear and purposeful stories
    • Drive automation at every step from code to deploy
    • Promote best practices in development and operations

Testing

    • Author unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
    • Perform load, scale, and performance tests

Architecture

    • Understand and critique the platform architecture
    • Implement new features/capabilities of the platform
    • Offer constructive feedback on design documents from other team members
    • Bring a strong focus on innovation and the use of open source technologies
